Empowering Research in Korean Communication Studies: KACA-KOFICE Grant Initiative
Description:
KACA and KOFICE are delighted to announce our continued collaborative research grant initiative, aimed at fostering innovative scholarly endeavors within the realm of Korean culture and communication. This collaborative initiative will offer funding opportunities ranging from
$500 to $1,000 to support scholarly teams in their research projects, fostering innovation in communication studies.
Suggested topics include, but are not limited to:
• Understanding communication's role in resolving conflicts within the Korean Wave context.
• Analyzing the dynamic relationship between K-culture, social media platforms, and interactive communication.
• Exploring the global phenomenon of K-contents (e.g., K-pop, K-drama) and its impact on fandom worldwide.
• Exploring the ongoing negotiation of identity among foreign K-pop fans.
• Exploring the impact of K-culture on K-branding and national identity.
We welcome submissions that embrace diverse theoretical frameworks and methodological approaches, fostering a rich and interdisciplinary discourse within the field.
Qualification:

Must be a current member of the KACA (Membership can be obtained at the time of proposal submission)

Must present their research at the NCA-KACA Research Session in New Orleans, Louisiana on November 19, 2026, at 4pm

Must attend the KACA-KOFICE Social Networking Dinner on November 19, 2026

When a study involves human subjects, IRB approval must be obtained from the institution before submitting the manuscription to KJC
-
Must submit their research to the Korean Journal of Communication by mid-January 2027
Deadline:
All grant proposals must be submitted by no later than September 25, Friday, 2026 (Midnight, EST).
Format:
Two proposal options are available. The proposal should be submitted as a single-spaced document of two to three pages (excluding the budget justification and references) and should include the following:

Proposed Project: the project's title, description/objectives, a concise literature review, research questions or hypotheses, and a methodology section

Completed Project: the project's title, description/objectives, a concise literature review, research questions or hypotheses, a methodology section, and key findings

The completed project must not be the same study that has been presented at other conferences.

The completed project must obtain IRB approval if the study involves human subjects.

Submissions must adhere to APA style or any other standard academic format.
Submission Process and Requirements:
Grant proposals must be submitted from an applicant’s university email or a Gmail account to icakaca2021@gmail.com. Submissions must include a separate cover page with the paper title, type (A. Proposed project or B. Completed project), author(s) name(s), affiliation(s), mailing address(es), email address(es), and phone number(s). To ensure blind review, the proposal should not contain any author-identifying information other than on the cover page.
